Tylan Watson

Hello. My name is Tylan Watson. I’m a 2023 Houston High School graduate from Houston, Mississippi. I enjoy taking care of bucking bulls, working cows, roping, and picking up bucking horses. As a young teen, a few characteristics that describe the worker and learner I am today, would be that I am a dependable, coordinated, critical thinker that practices excellent communications skills and problem solving. I am currently enrolled at Northwest Community College in Senatobia, Mississippi. I am entering my sophomore year with plans to graduate in May of 2025. I have a dual major in Agri-Business and Animal Science. Education is very important to me, because I feel it will provide me with the necessary tools to advance me into the role I will take in the near future to make a difference in the agriculture world. No stranger to hard work, along with my studies, I have been working four different jobs to get the experience of what goes on around the farm; three being farm jobs to get the experience of what goes on around the farm. I’ve learned a lot about different livestock, soil irrigation, producing an event such as a rodeo, etc. My post community plans will be to continue my education at Alcorn State University, majoring in Agriculture Science. Many ask, “Why would you choose Alcorn?” I find many reasons to choose an honorable school. In all honesty, the first reason I chose Alcorn is because it is a historical HBCU, which I always wanted to experience. The second reason I would choose Alcorn would be their academics and curriculum would allow me to get one step closer to being a USDA Agent. The last reason I chose Alcorn is due to one of my mentors, John Jones. Mr. Jones is an alumni of ASU and also had a career as a USDA Agent. For me, he can provide guidance on the journey to me becoming a USDA Agent. We have had many conversations regarding agriculture and every conversation has been motivating and useful. Lastly, I would like to thank the Jones’ and GenIra 16 Enterprises, LLC. They see the potential in young boys and girls that have interest in an almost extinct study and business of farming by bringing awareness to the importance of education and experience.
